MARY IS DANCING WITH THE KIDS AS SHE IS PLAYING RINDECELLA AT THE BALL. DURING THE DICKENS FAIR IN RIVERSIDE IN 1996
Educational Theater
We are a small acting troupe, A Fool And His Lady. We specialize in education theater. A Fool And His Lady offers students a hands on look into the fascinating Renaissance world of the years 1399-1599. We're a family group that focuses on several different time periods. Throughout the shows we help your children experience how families lived during the past seven hundred years. Your students will enjoy the historical explanations of each piece that makes up our costumes, from our hats to our shoes.
Our show is about overcoming adversity and dreams turning into reality. The show has information that stems from the past and the present. Douglas takes a moment to discuss the fact that he has successfully beaten a life long battle with a learning difference called dyslexia. He will explain how he overcame his reading and writing difficulties. With his determination he has fulfilled his dreams of becoming an accomplished writer, director and an actor. With his battle came a very special and unique talent of speaking backwards. Out of this came his interactive spoonerism shows.
Douglas will also tell of another personal experience with the children. He will tell about a friend who accidentally threw a pencil in his left eye; leaving him legally blind. The children will then watch with delight as he juggles, and shows even with a handicapped eye you can overcome anything.
The two spoonerism fairytales we perform are called RindeCella, and Gansel and Hretel. With RindeCella we pull five of your students from the audience and dress them up as the characters in the story. They act out the show while Douglas Sr. tells the tale. We explore the hidden meanings to some of life's oldest sayings like, "It's raining cat and dogs" as example. Our acting troupe mixes comedy with educational facts that stem from the past.
Jack in the Beanstalk is our third show. It is a fractured fairy tale that has been perfected over the last twenty seven years. Douglas Sr. has been delighting audience with this story and it is a favorite. Doug has performed this show at comedy clubs in San Diego, senior citizen centers, schools, and street fairs all with great success. This a show that uses seven people from the audience and makes many Kodak moments for everyone.
I can't forget to tell you the special bonus. Your children will love to watch our twelve year old son perform. You will be amazed how he keeps the kids mesmerized in their seats. In Gansel and Hretel you will be able to see our nine year old daughter perform. The children will be tickled pink by her acting ability.
All of the students are physically involved throughout the entire story. You will watch your students enjoy all the movements, as they become the great forest, the ginger bread house, and much more. The trick is to stay up with Douglas Sr. telling the story. We bring laughter and education together so smoothly your students will leave with a smile on their face, and a wealth of information under their belt. They learn history with the help of laughter. We are very proud to give that gift to children, it is our specialty.
